Tropical Caladium Collection Description

Stunning Caladiums Add Brilliant Colour and Tropical Flair to Your Garden!

Unlike many floral plants with a limited period of blooming, the distinctive, brightly coloured foliage of caladiums puts on a spectacular display without interruption, from late spring through the entire summer and until the frosts of fall. The big, lush, heart-shaped leaves bring a tropical look to the landscape that makes you feel like you're on vacation in your own backyard!

VERSATILE!
Few plants are as versatile as caladiums—especially our sun-tolerant varieties! Plant them in borders, in beds or in patio containers. They even make wonderful houseplants.

EASY!
It doesn't take a "green thumb" to grow these carefree caladiums. Just give them the right light conditions, and they practically take care of themselves. Lift in the fall and replant in the spring in all climate zones except zones 9-11, where they can remain in the landscape all year long.

Our Tropical Caladiums are the perfect landscape plants!

• Enjoy months of colour—summer to frost!
• Complement floral plantings in borders, beds and pots.
• Caladiums grow well in any zone if protected from winter chill. Lift tubers in fall and store in a cool, dry place in zones 3-8.
• Collection includes both fancy- and strap-leaf types for a diverse display.

This collection includes 2 each of following varieties:

  • Pink Splash: A top 10 finisher in the University of Georgia 2011 field trials, this mostly pink, fancy-leaf caladium tolerates morning sun and looks great in borders, mass plantings and pots. Contrasting dark green border and veining adds to its appeal. Grows 18-24" tall with a 10-12" spread. Plant in part to full shade.

  • Freida Hemple: Add a brilliant splash of colour to a shaded corner of your patio, deck or garden with this variety's fiery-red, heart-shaped leaves, which are ringed in soft green. Freida Hemple reaches a mature height of 12-18", but it's not winter hardy, so bring it indoors before the first frost. Plant in part to full shade.

  • Candidum Senior: The granddaddy of white caladiums, Candidum Senior grows 18-24" tall and features impressive, 10-12" leaves that really light up the landscape. Mostly white foliage is marked with prominent, green veins and smaller, more intricate veining. This variety prefers at least some shade and will complement more colourful plantings. Plant in part to full shade.

  • Gingerland: Creamy white, variegated leaves, framed in green margins, feature distinctive raspberry speckles across their surfaces. Growing only 12-15" tall, Gingerland adds height variation to a border display, along with a radiant pop of colour. It also makes a beautiful potted specimen. Plant in part to full shade, and be sure to keep out of direct sunlight to protect from sun scorch.

  • White Queen: A taller fancy-leaf caladium standing 18-24" tall, White Queen makes quite a statement in the garden from summer to frost. Distinctive white leaves feature bleeding reddish veins and just a hint of green, numbering 30-35 by the end of the season. This variety can handle some sun, but for best colour, plant in part to full shade.
